“Okay” Degan replied. He did as she asked, placing the plates on the counter by the stove. “Can we talk over the meal? There are a few things I’d like to run by you.”
“Sure.” Mika’s heart lurched and did a flip. It raced so fast, a pain raced through her body bouncing off her ribs and numbing her toes. She knew what was coming. He was going to tell her that he changed his mind and didn’t want to have anything to do with her. She couldn’t say she blamed him. She had no life, no job and lived in a stinking apartment that was falling apart around her ears. The truth stared her in the face—she brought nothing to their relationship.
Over their late breakfast, Mika couldn’t eat. She continued pushing the same piece of egg around on her plate.
“You’re nervous,” Degan spoke.
“You said we needed to talk, right? Any conversation beginning with that line never ends well in my experience.”
“No, it’s nothing as horrid as all that. I wanted to talk about us, about where you want to take this—this thing between us. It’s obvious that I do something for you or you wouldn’t have slept with me. You wouldn’t have opened your home to me.”
“And I want more than just a fling, Degan. I really do. I mean you just look at me and I fall to pieces. I have this craving, this yearning for you that I can’t rightly explain and sometimes it blinds me to the fact that all this will be over soon and you’ll simply turn back into a pumpkin. The truth is I have nothing to offer this relationship. You bring in wealth and power and I bring in a broken down apartment, unemployment and depression.”
“Money isn’t everything, you know.”
“I know—but aren’t you afraid of what the media will say?”
“No.”
“You can’t mean that. I mean, the last time I read a newspaper article about you was two years ago and even back then they bragged about who you are—New York’s most eligible bachelor and how you are making millions. What are they going to say when they get wind of me? I’ll tell you what they’re going to say. The little ghetto girl from butt-fuck nowhere is only into him because he’s got money.”
Degan shook his head. “But doesn’t it matter that I know you’re not in this for the money?”
“Why do you think I’m into this?”
“Well.” Degan stopped to sip from his coffee. “I think you’re here because you like my ass.”
Mika laughed. “Seriously.”
“Do you see how stupid this conversation has gotten?” Degan wanted to know. “This relationship isn’t between you, me and the media. This isn’t between you, me, and Preston—this relationship is between you and me. No one else matters. As long as we know the truth, then to hell with what everyone else thinks. Tell me, what’s your dream? Aside from being a showgirl.”
Mika blushed and stuffed a fork filled with eggs into her mouth. She chewed thoughtfully, watching Degan to see if he would laugh at her.
“I wanted to open my own bookstore.”
“That makes sense.” Degan nodded. “You were always reading in high school. Well, this is just a suggestion. But I bought a building in Manhattan about a year ago and I haven’t figured out what I was going to do with it.”
“Then why did you buy it?”
Degan shrugged. “It’s a really old building and the old owners were going to tear it down so they could build condos on the land. I mean, nothing is sacred to these people anymore.” He took a sip from his mug before leveling his gaze on her. “I couldn’t let them do it.”
Mika couldn’t help herself then. She reached over, took his hand and squeezed reassuringly.
“You’re welcomed to the building if you’d like,” he offered.
“Are you serious?” Mika arched a brow. “Wait—it doesn’t matter. I can’t take your building. I mean I’d need money to start it up and I don’t even have a job.”
“Well, Sweetie, we can cross that bridge when we get to it.” He shrugged. “You haven’t eaten.”
Mika gave him a smile and took her hand back from his. She ate a little more from her plate before staring at him. How could he have had feelings for her for so long and said nothing?
“Did you really call out my name during sex with another woman?”
Degan nodded.
“I’m sorry—but you should have said something to me in high school.”
Degan chuckled. “I don’t think we were meant to be in high school. I think we would have done something stupid and mess it up. I think now, we’re ready.”
She understood what he meant. Not all high school relationships ended happily. Most of them ended up in pregnancy and with both parties hating each other for ruining their lives. The resentment that she sensed from some of the couples after high school was enough to make her skin crawl.
“Would you like to go for a walk with me?” Mika questioned.
“Are you asking me out Mika Jamison?”
She giggled, blowing him a kiss. “Yes, Mr. Moira. I am asking you out.”
“What do I get if I say yes?”
Mika grinned and pulled the sheets that were wrapped around her body. She exposed her breasts and shook them at him. “Why don’t you come around this table and taste them?”
“What time did you want to go for that walk?” Degan questioned.
“At some point—I want you to lick my nipples.”
“Your wish is my command,” Degan replied, pushing his chair back.
Mika watched him as he walked around the table, fell to his knees beside her and reached for her tits. He pressed them together, and ran his tongue from one nipple to the other. Momentarily, he would stop to suck roughly against one nipple then the other. Each time, a sharp surge of pleasure roared through her.
“Uh, Degan!” She whispered.
Her pussy quivered and her neck lost all control and her head fell back. She cradled his head, digging her fingers into his hair. Still he licked and sucked at her now sensitive buds, feeding from them like he was a starved man. Her toes curled.
After a while, she couldn’t stand it anymore. She slipped a hand from his hair and found her clit. Moaning, she gyrated her hips causing the pleasure numb to roughly drag against her finger. A sound escaped her throat and she sank a finger into herself.
“Suck them harder, please,” she sobbed.
He did as she asked and soon Mika was bucking like a bronco as her climaxed soared through her body. Degan released her breasts with a kiss to each before pulling her into standing position. In one swooping motion, he shoved the plates to the ground. He pressed her to lay face forward on the table. When he’d freed himself from his jeans she didn’t know. She was too delirious to care. He used his legs to spread her feet, and slipped his cock into her from behind.
“Oh baby!” Mika cried, banging a fist on the table.
* * * *
“Fire,” he growled. Clutching her hips and slipping into her again and again, Degan allowed her body to control his. Her hot, slick channel sucked his throbbing dick deeper, squeezing tighter leaving Degan a shivering, moaning mess. He wouldn’t have it any other way though. A need to see her eyes passed through him and he slipped from her body. He sat down in a nearby chair and smiled at her. “Come here, baby.”
She licked her lips. “Why? What you got for me?”
“I want you to sit on it,” Degan told her.
The coy look that flashed through her eyes turned Degan on even more. He grabbed his cock, coated with her juices, in one hand and stroked it slowly. “Ride me.”
She climbed astride his legs, reached back and aimed his dick at her entrance. Locking eyes with her, Degan lifted his hips. Slowly, she took him into her body.
“Yes,” Degan growled, grabbing the back of the chair. He arched his body and for his troubles, she caressed her fingers down his chest. She stopped, grabbed both his nipples. While pinching, she tugged them outward and a searing delight tore through Degan’s body. He whimpered her name while reaching out for the back of her neck w
hile she screwed her body to his. Roughly, he pulled her neck forward, slamming his lips over hers and forcing his tongue into her mouth. Their tongues did battle even as she rode him—their breathing heavy—their chests heaving against each other. Using his free hand, he pressed hard against her ass, forcing his dick deeper into her.
“Come for me, baby,” Degan whispered.
He released her head, gripped the sides of the chair and drove his hips upward over and over into her. She was slamming her hips down onto him hard, her head tossed back with her large, perfect tits in her hands. She was pinching her own nipples so Degan decided to help her out. Bowing his head, he moved his mouth from one nipple to the other, biting and sucking at the chocolate buds.
She grabbed his hair and tightened her fingers as she crumbled around his cock. Degan couldn’t control himself.
She’s so damn tight.
The moment she began squeezing him, all thoughts of control slipped from him and his body shook violently against hers.
Chapter Nine
Hand in hand, Mika and Degan walked down the street. Mika carried a small bag on her back that she’d refused to tell Degan what it held. She led him through a small set of trees before emerging on the other side on the lake. It wasn’t a beach per say, but the local high school students used the stretched of water for their make-out spot. School had just started again so there were very few people there.
Finding a perfect spot, she released his hand and grinned at him. She opened the bag and pulled out a blanket. She laid it out and removed her shoes. Stepping on it, she sat down and patted the spot beside her. Degan sat down, watching her. Mika found that she felt like the sexiest woman on the planet when he looked at her with those green eyes shimmering at her. He looked at her as though he yearned for her and wild horses couldn’t keep him from her.
Giggling, she reached into her bag again and pulled out a bottle of wine and two glasses. “It’s not the expensive stuff, but I figured we needed our first official date since the last one ended kinda badly.” She handed him one of the glasses.
Degan smiled. “This is wonderful,” he told her. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” She grunted trying to open the bottle of wine.
Degan’s fingers closed around hers, taking the bottle from her fingers. She watched him as he stared down at the bottle pensively for a moment. He then turned the cork roughly to one side. There was a small snap sound and the cork came free.
“My hero!” Mika laughed.
“Thank you, m’lady. I aim to please.”
She poured them some wine and recovered the bottle. She placed it into her bag and set it aside. Turning to him she lifted her glass. “To taking chances.”
“I’ll drink to that always,” Degan admitted.
Taking a sip, Mika set her glass down in the sand beside her and moved across the small space. Bracing her palm against his chest, she pressed him backward before moving to snuggle into his side. He held onto her, without her having to ask and that told her so much about Degan. He was caressing her arm gently and she knew then she had to say something.
“Degan?”
“Mmm?”
“Would you like to be my boyfriend?”
Degan’s body shook with his mirth. He laughed so hard she had to sit up and stare down at him incredulously.
“It’s not funny!” Mika snapped. “Stinking men think they can just…”
She was so angry. Getting up, she stalked off down the beach not caring that she’d left her bag and wine behind. How could he laugh at her? She wanted them to be something rather than just two people who fuck each other’s brains out on a regular basis. What is wrong with asking a man to be my boyfriend?
“Mika! Wait!” he hollered after her.
She didn’t stop. She couldn’t. Mika was too embarrassed to face him. She’d put herself out there and he’d laughed in her face.
He grabbed her arm and twisted her around.
“Wait a minute!” he told her. “Shit. What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong? I asked you to be my boyfriend and you just laughed in my face! How can you not see anything wrong with that?”
“I wasn’t laughing at you! I was laughing because you were asking me to be your boyfriend—it was just so cute, it caught me off guard. Mika, you know I came here to be more to you than just some jock in high school. You knew I came here expecting much more than that. Why would you think I was laughing at you?”
“Because you’re you.”
He cradled her face and kissed her lips. “I want you—I want your cuteness. I want all of you. And yes, I’d be honored to be your boyfriend.”
Mika bowed her head and couldn’t help the laughter that escaped her lips. “Now that I think about it, you’re right. I would probably have laughed too.”
“So…can we go back to the blanket? I was hoping I’d score some points with you and you’d let me eat you again…”
“You enjoy doing that to me?” She tried to read him.
“You taste so damn good,” Degan replied. He licked his lips and stepped closer to her. “Why don’t you lay on your back on the blanket, take your panties off and spread those legs for me? Then you can tell me whether or not I enjoy it.”
“Who said I’m wearing panties?” Mika ran off toward the blanket.
“Hey!” Degan called. “Tease!”
* * * *
By the time Degan fell to his knees on the blanket with her. Mika already had her skirt hiked to her hips and her legs spread wide. She braced herself on her elbows and looked up at him with heat in her eyes he’d come to know and love. Licking his lips, Degan slipped to his knees between her legs, held her hips to the blanket and greedily attacked her pussy. The fact that they may get caught darting through his mind, but her taste quickly quieted that worry. She pulled his hair roughly, but all he could focus on was the fact he was eating her and loving it. He lifted his mouth to moan her name, and then dipped his tongue forward again. Using it like he would his cock, he drove the muscle into her as far as it would go—tasting from her essence.
Her channel closed around his tongue even while her body arched from the blanket. She pulled his hair harder, screamed his name before her whole body shuddered. He sucked at her juices, growling his satisfaction. When she stopped shaking, he kissed her belly, licked at her belly button before lying beside her. Degan pulled her into his arms and held her, quivering frame against him.
A strange feeling of possessive protectiveness charged through him and his arms tightened. “Don’t ask me to let you go,” he whispered. “I don’t know if I could stand it.”
“This is still a little bit of a shock to me,” Mika said, shifting against him. “I can’t believe you’ve had feelings for me all these years and never said anything.”
“Well believe it. It was mostly out of fear, really. I never thought I was good enough for you.”
She laughed at that. “That’s rich because I don’t think I’m good enough for you. I’m slipping—falling for you Degan, but I am so scared. You do things to my body that I only dream of at nights. If I closed my eyes long enough, I may be able to dream of being held the way you hold me or being kissed the way you kiss me. I don’t think I could actually dream of it being this good.”
“Why dream? You have me, right here, beside you. All you have to do is reach out and grab a hold. I can’t promise you perfect, but I can promise you I’ll try my damndest to be a good man to you.”
She raised her body to look down into his eyes and Degan turned to look up at her through strands of hair that blew into his face.
He cradled her face. “I promise to love you the way you deserve and trust me, honey, you deserve nothing but the absolute best. Tell me you believe that.”
“I can’t.”
“Mika…tell me you believe that.”
She went silent, blinking down at him. He kept her face in his hands because he needed to hear her say it. Degan wasn’t sure why it was
so important to him, but hearing her say she believed she deserved the world would do his heart well. Tears toppled down her cheeks and she closed her eyes. He dipped his head forward, feathering butterfly kisses against her eye-lids. His heart broke seeing her cry. Pulling her into his chest, he held her tightly against his chest, caressing her back.
“I’m sorry, Mika. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“No.” She shook her head. “You didn’t hurt me. I just, I’m not used to a man being this tender with me. I’m not used to being loved by anyone and to have you here, holding me, and looking at me like I am the most beautiful woman you’ve ever seen, just tears at my soul.”
“Mika, I’ve loved you forever it seems. I can wait.”
“But you don’t have to.” She sniffled. “I am falling for you so fast it worries me.”
“Then that’s just half the battle right? All I have to do is continue being my same charming self and I’ll be able to get you to fall all the way in love with me.”
Mika laughed and kissed his chin. “Yes.”
“Does that mean you’re willing to try with me?”
“Yes. I’m willing to try.”
“Do you have any objections to leaving Simora?”
She turned away from him and pushed from the blanket. His heart broke as she walked from him and to the water’s edge. Sitting up, Degan watched her. She had her arms wrapped around herself and her face turned up in the wind. Perhaps it was too soon to ask her to leave her home. Perhaps it was too soon for everything he’d done in the past few days. Degan bowed his head. Perhaps he was an idiot to think he could have a fairytale-ish, happily ever after ending.
When she walked back to him he didn’t hear her move. He didn’t even know she stood there until she spoke.
“I have nothing here,” Mika replied. “I don’t have a job anymore because I walked away from it. The people here hate me and my apartment is falling apart around me. My mom warned me that Simora wasn’t an easy place to live—I didn’t listen. I figured I’d be here long enough to make the dance team and then I’d be gone once I made enough money. I dreamed of transferring from Simora to Vegas. I know it is a silly dream.”
